1. Định nghĩa
Khi một mệnh đề chứa “that” được dùng như là tân ngữ cho một trong số những động từ như: acknowledge, assume, believe, claim, consider, estimate, feel, find, report, say, think, understand, announce,…thì ta áp dụng như những cách bên dưới:
| 1. I believed that he was innocent. |
2. I believe that he was innocent. |
| Cách 1: It was believed that he was innocent. |
Cách 1: It is believed that he was innocent. |
| Cách 2: He was believed to be innocent. |
Cách 2: He is believed to have been innocent. |

Ví dụ:
1. They told me that you were the best architect in this city.
⇨I was told that you were the best architect in this city.
2. They have persuaded me that they will go with me to the stadium.
⇨I have been persuaded to have gone with me to the stadium.
